Martlet Court's Surprise

Retired residents at Martlet Court, Sussex Housing & Care’s sheltered flats in Kemp Town, Brighton were bowled over at the amazing generosity shown by 12 young people on a Twelve week Prince’s Trust ‘Team Programme’ when they arrived at the scheme armed with Christmas gifts for all the residents.

The young people, who came from Brighton, Worthing, Lewes and Burgess Hill, had arranged to join in an afternoon Bingo session so it was a wonderful surprise for all the residents when they arrived with gifts as well.

The young people raised the funds to buy the gifts by selling cakes they had made and selling trainers donated by Brighton & Hove football Club. This activity was one of the groups’ penultimate activities before their graduation next week.

All the Martlet Court’s bingo players loved the extra visitors who joined in all the sessions and also took turns being bingo callers. The Christmas gifts are being saved up until the Martlet Courts Christmas party where they will be distributed to all the residents. Many of the residents will be especially touched as some receive no Christmas presents, apart from a small gift from Sussex Housing & Care.
