Chef Manager Maria becomes finalist in care awards

Congratulations to our Chef Manager Maria Figueria who has been recognised by the Great British Care awards as a South East Regional finalist.

Maria is Chef Manager at our not for profit care home, Oakwood Court in Haywards Heath, and has over 30 years of catering experience, including 18 years as a Chef for older people in care and sheltered housing.

Maria has reached the regional finals in the Care Chef category and is delighted by the news: “I was really surprised and I’ve been telling all my family about getting through to the regional finals! It’s nice to be recognised for the effort I put into my role. I enjoy my job and manage a team of four people and I feel so happy when I see residents enjoying food. The way I serve meals is a reflection of myself and the effort and love I put into it and I’m really excited to have been nominated for the Care Home Chef award!

“My love of cooking grew during my Spanish upbringing, raised in a culture where food and family are incredibly important and I learnt to cook from a young age. I ran Spanish restaurants with my family and for me, good food and good company are key ingredients for making people happy!”

She brings a wealth of experience, and her positivity and creativity is wonderful. We are excited to hear the regional winners which are announced at an awards ceremony in Brighton on 17 November and wish Maria all the very best!”

The Great British Care Awards are held every year to celebrate the very best people in the care sector and their outstanding excellence.

Congratulations and good luck Maria!
