Community comes to together at Oakwood Court

Oakwood Court care home in Haywards Heath was a hive of activity on Tuesday 28 June as we celebrated national care home open week 2022 and the mission to reconnect care home residents with the local community.

We welcomed people from a variety of Haywards Heath community groups, including The Lions Club, Women’s Institute, St Paul’s Toddler Group, Grace Church, Christ Church and Age UK. Together with the Mayor of Haywards Heath and residents’ families and friends, we created a masterpiece of handprints which will take pride of place on the wall in Oakwood Court’s main lounge.

Tracy Evans, Chief Executive of Sussex Housing & Care said: “It was fantastic to see the community connecting today with our residents and our warm and lovely staff at Oakwood Court as part of Care Home Open Week.  Our thanks to the Mayor and others for taking the time to join us. Creating the Oakwood Court Community Masterpiece was great fun with many generations taking part! I am very proud of all our staff and today it was clear to see that the Oakwood Court team put residents at the heart of what we do and go the extra mile to make sure our residents are happy. The pictures say it all!”

Councillor Howard Mundin, Mayor, enjoyed adding his handprint and said: “We were thrilled to take part today, meeting residents, staff and their families. What really struck me is the incredible warmth and friendliness of everyone at Oakwood Court as soon as I stepped through the door. It was pleasurable seeing residents interacting with everyone and being part of the community, including hearing how happy they are living there and the peace of mind the good care gives their family members. The staff showed great care and professionalism and they clearly really do care. It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning, and I was pleased to support this community event in aid of Care Home Open Week 2022.”

Events are being held throughout the UK in support of this national week to enrich the lives of care home residents.

Oakwood Court is run by Sussex Housing & Care, a not for profit provider of quality, affordable housing and care for older people in Sussex. Any surplus each year is reinvested back into the organisation in order to continuously improve the properties and the quality of life of residents.
