Working together with residents, we are developing and implementing a Resident Charter, setting out what residents expect from us.

Your Residents' Charter

We want your views on our draft Resident Charter

We recently advised you that we were looking to develop and implement a Resident Charter. This charter will set out what residents can expect from us as your landlord (or freeholder if you are a leaseholder). It will also make sure that we meet the requirements of the government’s published White Paper for Social Housing.

On the 18 and 19 October 2021 we met virtually with a group of residents who had volunteered to help us co-create the charter. We discussed the objectives set out in the government’s White Paper, how this affects the delivery of our services and as a result what commitments we should be making. For example under the area for Performance we have ‘Be open about how we perform in keys areas including repairs; compliance and complaints’. After our discussion; we thought the way to achieve this is by providing greater detail, more regularly, on how we are performing overall (and by scheme). We think this can be done through a number of ways; including having a dedicated area on the website to report our performance, using the newsletters to share information and existing ways such as the annual report.

A draft version of the charter can be found here

We are now seeking your views on this draft charter, to help us turn it into your Residents’ Charter. Please let your scheme manager know of any feedback or views you may have, email us at haveyoursay@sussexhousing.org.uk or by contacting us on 01323 875240. We need your views by 30 November 2021.

The charter will form a key part of the new 2022 Resident Engagement Strategy, including how we will assess how well we are meeting the aims of our Charter. We will soon start working with residents to create our Resident Engagement Strategy.
