Volunteering opportunities

Volunteering opportunities

If you would like to make a difference to an older person’s life and have a little time to spare, we would really like to hear from you.

We offer a range of volunteering opportunities and we welcome volunteers in both our care homes and housing schemes.

Here are some examples of ways you can volunteer, but we also welcome your ideas and for you to volunteer doing something you enjoy:

  • Chatting with residents
  • Reading newspapers, books, poetry
  • Singing
  • Arts and crafts
  • Gardening
  • Games
  • Exercise
  • Quiz
  • Visting the library
  • Helping at events
  • Organising

Laura standing and smiling at the camera by the activities cupboard If you’re thinking of volunteering then I’d say do it! Until you do it, you won’t fully understand what you get out of it. It will completely change your view on a lot of things. I felt a bit nervous at the start as it was new people and new places, but everyone was really nice and friendly. Coming out of it, I know I’ve made a difference and feel happy about what I've achieved. I’d definitely do it again.

Laura Hodge, Volunteer

Lady in red jumper calling bingo I volunteer at Saxonwood care home in Battle because I'm retired and can't sit on my hands all day! I call the bingo game once a week and support events at the home. I've been volunteering for some years now and it's a kind thing to do and I feel appreciated. The residents enjoy chatting and spending time with me.

If anyone is thinking about volunteering I think coming in to chat with the residents is a good starting point, you'll be made to feel welcome and the staff are very supportive.
