Vaccinations take place at all of our care homes

We are delighted that our care home residents and the majority of care staff have now received the vaccination to protect them against Covid-19.

This is brilliant news as they are helping our community to stay safe and join us in doing everything we can to reduce the spread of the virus.

Pictured below is Rosemary who lives at Saxonwood care home in Battle. Rosemary wrote to us to share her positive experience of receiving the vaccine:

“I was escorted by carers for a short wait in the dining room, then down to the room where it was all happening! Such a kind welcome from all – staff, carers and my lovely doctor who was administrating the vaccine. One prick and it was done, I hardly felt it. No arm pain, no headache - the only effect was the next day; lethargy. I slept most of that day. Since then, no problems, I feel fine. Thank you everyone – I quite enjoyed it!”

John 95, resident at Woodlands care home in Crowborough received his vaccination and said “I’m feeling fine and I’m looking forward to the next one! I think it’s excellent to have a vaccine against Covid.”

Wendy Adams, care assistant at Woodlands care home in Crowborough, has had the vaccination and said “Being a priority for the vaccine shows that care home and front line workers are being thought about and it’s great that we’re now getting protected. I had Covid and it wasn’t nice, it was quite scary. To know I’m now safer makes me feel more confident and I’d really encourage everyone to get the vaccine as we’re all in this together.”

Jackie, 85, resident at Oakwood Court care home in Haywards Heath used to work in medicine and stresses the importance of getting vaccinated “It’s a good idea, it’s the only way to get the numbers down. I’ve never felt unsafe but it’s nice to have less risk and improve our chances.”

New residents and colleagues in our care homes will be prioritised to receive a vaccination when they move in or start work.

Tracy Evans, Chief Executive said “Thank you to our amazing care teams for supporting the roll out of the new vaccine and to our local GPs and surgeries in Battle, Bexhill, Haywards Heath and Crowborough for their outstanding work in getting the first round of vaccinations administered. It’s great to hear our residents have now received their first dose and our care home communities are becoming protected from the virus.”
