Acoustic monitoring goes live at Oakwood Court

Recently we successfully went live with our new acoustic monitoring system, in partnership with Adaptive Care, which marks an important step forward in our night time care provision at Oakwood Court care home in Haywards Heath.

Ahead of the go‑live, our night care team received training on how to use the system effectively, with a strong focus on supporting residents to achieve good-quality, uninterrupted sleep. By reducing the need for routine physical night-time checks, the system allows residents to rest more peacefully while ensuring staff can still respond quickly when support is genuinely needed.

The benefits of the system were demonstrated clearly during its very first night in operation. Alfred Sajan, Night Care Assistant, appreciates the new monitoring system: ”At one point, a resident called out for help rather than using her nurse call. Without acoustic monitoring in place, this call would not have been heard by staff. Thanks to the system, the alert was picked up immediately and I was able to respond and provide support within minutes.”

Amanda Hodge, Operations Director at Sussex Housing & Care supported the ‘go live’ and said: “This early example highlights exactly why acoustic monitoring is such a valuable addition to night-time care — enhancing resident safety and dignity while supporting staff to deliver responsive, person-centred care.

A big thank you to our night team at Oakwood Court for embracing the new technology and to Adaptive Care for their support in getting the system live. After a rigorous tendering process, we’re pleased to be working with this innovative and forward-thinking organisation. We’re giving our carers the best tools to provide the best care and this new technology will prevent and reduce falls, give residents a better night’s sleep, and enable our staff to be more efficient, person centred and responsive.”

Chris Zych Director of Business Development & Strategic Partnerships in the UK at Adaptive Care said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with a forward-thinking organisation that truly recognises the role innovation plays in improving care. At Adaptive Care, we believe technology should empower carers, not replace them, and it’s encouraging to work with a team that shares that vision. The team at Oakwood Court have been fantastic from start to finish. Change isn’t easy but the night staff have risen to the challenge.

While fall detection offers clear value, the real impact lies in fall prevention — and that’s exactly what our system is designed to deliver. By helping teams intervene earlier and more effectively, we’re supporting safer environments, better outcomes for residents, and more confident, responsive care.”

The new nursecall technology has been installed as part of significant investment in a three storey extension to Oakwood Court, including 31 new ensuite bedrooms, a cinema, hair and beauty salon, lounge and dining room, and landscaped gardens and patio.
