Five months after the introduction of acoustic monitoring at Oakwood Court Care Home in Haywards Heath, feedback from staff, residents and families shows the technology is having a positive impact on night-time care, helping residents sleep more peacefully while ensuring support is available when needed.

The acoustic monitoring system was introduced in partnership with Adaptive Care earlier this year as part of Oakwood Court's ongoing commitment to enhancing resident wellbeing through thoughtful innovation. By reducing the need for routine physical night-time checks, the system enables residents to enjoy more uninterrupted sleep while allowing care staff to respond quickly when they hear sounds or alerts that indicate support may be required.

Amanda Hodge, Operations Director at Sussex Housing & Care reflected on the difference the new technology has made: “Since going live, the system has proved its value on numerous occasions. An internal survey of Oakwood Court's night care team found that 100% of staff felt the system helped identify residents requiring assistance more quickly, and reduced the need for routine room-to-room checks. Colleagues have shared examples of timely interventions, including occasions where alerts enabled them to reach residents before a fall occurred.

It’s been great to hear that families have also welcomed the introduction of acoustic monitoring, telling us how it provides reassurance and peace of mind about their loved ones' wellbeing overnight.”

Bindu Joseph, Care Home Manager said: “When the system first went live, its benefits were demonstrated immediately when staff were alerted after a resident called out for help rather than using their nurse call. The alert enabled the night team to respond within minutes, providing support that may otherwise have been delayed. This early success highlighted how the technology complements the expertise, compassion and responsiveness of our care team.”
