I’m a caring person and love to be around people

We couldn’t be more proud of our care teams and we love to recognise and celebrate their efforts to put residents at the heart of everything we do.

Becoming part of the Sussex Housing & Care team means you have a clear pathway for promotion and personal development. We caught up with Roxi from Saxonwood Care Home in Battle to hear about her career with us over the last seven years and what it’s like to be a Deputy Care Home Manager.

“When I come to work I always look forward to greeting residents and making them smile. Each resident has such interesting individual stories to tell, and I enjoy hearing about all the things they’ve done in their life, whilst supporting and caring for them. What I love about my job is how rewarding it is, especially when I see my team growing and I help to empower them every day.

I started as a care assistant at Saxonwood seven years ago and immediately felt part of the Saxonwood family. A year after joining the home, I was promoted and became a senior care assistant. After five years in this role, I gained a wealth of experience including; leading a team, medication, mental health and wellbeing. I was keen to progress my career and I became Deputy Care Home Manager.

I haven’t looked back. In this role I support Sigita, the Care Home Manager, with the smooth running of the home and cover as the manager when she is on leave or training. I manage our excellent care team, oversee the medication administration and support the process of new residents coming to live with us, as well as recruiting staff. In my role as Deputy Manager I have to be confident with my communication skills, this is crucial when working with people.

Throughout my employment with Sussex Housing & Care, I feel they have supported me every step of the way. I’ve been able to achieve new qualifications and develop new key skills, and feel valued for the work I do, which is really important to me.

If you are a caring person, love to be around people and enjoy professional and self-development, then working in the care sector could be a great fit for you.’’
