Today is Starts at Home Day, when housing associations across the country celebrate supported housing and the positive impact it makes on people's lives. We have spoken to some of our residents to find out what difference it has made to them..
“I had problems with my balance and walking, and in my old flat I had two flights of stairs. I ended up in hospital and it was decided that I couldn’t live in my home anymore.
I’ve recently moved to Oakwood Flats and have a one bed ground floor flat which is great as there are no stairs and I can easily bring my shopping in. I’m pretty active and independent and enjoy visiting my friends, drawing and graphic design. I have an electronic scooter which I can store easily here, and it’s only takes 15 minutes to get into the town centre.
It’s a relief knowing I’ve got an assured tenancy. I don’t have to worry about having to move, social housing has definitely supported me.”
