Join us for Dementia Action Week 2026

Dementia Action Week encourages people and communities to support people affected by dementia. Led by the Alzheimer’s Society, the week raises awareness, challenges stigma, and promotes a dementia-friendly society where those living with dementia can live well and feel understood and supported.

Here is a summary of our events across Sussex for Dementia Action Week. You are welcome to join us at any of the activities, entertainment or workshops below. All events are free and include complimentary tea, cake and refreshments.

Woodlands care home in Crowborough

  • Monday 18 May – Take part in an arts and crafts activity to create forget-me-not flowers which represent remembrance, love and the enduring connection to loved ones. The flowers will decorate Woodlands care home during Dementia Action Week. 11am to 12 noon.  
  • Tuesday 19 May – Join us for a visit of our favourite Pet Pals. Meet and pet the adorable visitors who boost well-being, reduce anxiety, and stimulate memories. 3:30pm to 4.30pm.
  • Wednesday 20 May – Would you like to know more about living well with dementia? Join us for a coffee morning with an information session.  11am to 12pm.
  • Thursday 21 May – Swing and Sing at Woodlands with entertainment from Andy Mace. 11am to 12pm.
  • Friday 22 May – Exercise your mental muscles with a fun and lighthearted quiz.  11am to 12pm.

Oakwood Court care home in Haywards Heath

  • Monday 18 May – Memory suitcase - enjoy seeing artefacts from years gone by in this relaxing reminiscence activity. 3pm to 4pm.
  • Tuesday 19 May – Take part in an informal and fun games morning. Enjoy connect 4, scrabble, puzzles, ludo, snakes and ladders, balloon tennis – just to name a few! 10.30am to 11.30am.
  • Wednesday 20 May -Plant up a vintage teacup and take it home with you as a lovely keepsake. This workshop will be a gentle and enjoyable session designed to bring people together, spark conversation and celebrate living well with dementia. 10.30am to 11.30am.
  • Thursday 21 May – A Jackson Pollock style group art project. An inclusive art activity, even for those in wheelchairs! 10.30am to 11.30am.
  • Thursday 21 May – A 70’s disco themed tea party. We’ll be welcoming residents from neighbouring care homes – come and boogie with us! 3pm to 4.30pm.
  • Friday 22nd May - Singalong with Steve. Enjoy all the old favourites with our very own Steve! 3pm to 4pm.

Saxonwood care home in Battle

  • Monday 18 May – A fun filled morning of fashion and reminiscence, dating back to the 1950s! See the iconic outfits and view products and items from years gone by to bring back those vivid memories  11am to 12pm.
  • Monday 18 May - Dementia awareness session, learn about living well with dementia, the support available and understand more about the disease and what it's like to live with it. Everyone welcome. 3pm to 4pm.
  • Tuesday 19 May – Memory game challenge, get those memories flooding back! 3pm to 4pm.
  • Wednesday 20 May – The highly anticipated annual Saxonwood Dog Show! 2.30pm to 4pm
  • Thursday 21 May – Teddy bear picnic afternoon, bring your furry friend and enjoy a complimentary picnic and reminiscence.
  • Friday 22 May – Ellie from the Bling Crosbies will entertain us with her uplifting songs and dances through the year. 3pm to 4pm.

Information sessions across Sussex

Sussex Housing & Care is hosting informal information sessions covering; living well after a diagnosis, recognising signs of dementia and where to find support. These sessions are free, include refreshments, and everyone is welcome to join us in our communal lounge at the locations below:

  • Tuesday 5 May at 10.30am to 11.30am – Ashleigh Glegg House, Seaford
  • Wednesday 6 May at 10am to 11am – Waldron Court, Heathfield
  • Wednesday 6 May at 1pm to 2pm – Yvonne Robertson House, Bexhill
  • Tuesday 12 May at 12.30pm to 1.30pm – Communal lounge at St Thomas of Canterbury Court, Mayfield
  • Wednesday 13 May at 11am to 12pm – Devonport House, Rye
  • Thursday 14 May at 10.30am to 11.30am – Clevedown, Lewes
  • Friday 15 May at 10am to 11am – Cheneys Lodge, Seaford
  • Tuesday 19 May at 10.15am to 11.15am – Nevill Court, Crowborough
  • Tuesday 19 May at 12pm to 1pm – Oakwood Flats, Haywards Heath
  • Wednesday 20 May at 10.30am to 11.30am – The Cedars, Brighton
  • Wednesday 20 May at 12.30pm to 1.30pm – Martlet Court, Brighton
