Huge congratulations to Steve Dyer, Maintenance Operative at Oakwood Court care home in Haywards Heath, who won the ‘Chairs Award’ last night at the West Sussex Partners in Care (WSPiC) Accolades.
Selected and presented by Rosemary Pavoni BEM, Chair of WSPiC, Steve was recognised for “consistently exceeding expectations by prioritising residents’ wellbeing, dignity and quality of life in all aspects of his work. He actively supports independence and community engagement and contributes meaningfully to the home’s culture by supporting events and participating in themed activities. He enriches daily life through personal interactions including singing, playing the guitar and involving his dog in resident engagement.”
Steve celebrated his achievements alongside fellow nominee Maria Figueira, Chef Manager at Oakwood Court, Bindu, Care Home Manager, and Vafa and Lizzie from Sussex Housing & Care’s Support Services Team.
Steve reacted to winning: “I’m mind blown! Never did I realise when Bindu phoned me two years ago to say I’d got my job, that it would turn into the role that was clearly meant for me! To receive an award for enjoying the daily blast that is life at Oakwood Court, is beyond amazing, and I feel lucky to work with such an amazing group of people.”
After the announcement, Bindu, Care Home Manager at Oakwood Court said: “This is wonderful news and I’m delighted Steve has won, he totally deserves this recognition and it’s been brilliant celebrating his achievements and efforts.”
Tracy Evans, Chief Executive at Sussex Housing & Care said: “We are very proud of Steve and Maria for winning and being nominated, they are a credit to Sussex Housing & Care and to the care sector, along with everyone working in our care teams who put residents at the heart of everything we do.”
