You are invited - Join us for intergenerational ‘Palette to Pitch’ Open Days
Sussex Housing & Care is inviting the local community to step inside our care homes this June, as part of a series of special open days taking place on 15, 16 and 17 June in celebration of National Care Home Open Week.
Running from 10.30am to 12pm each day, the events will showcase a unique intergenerational initiative, ‘Palette to Pitch’, bringing together residents, students and community members in a fun and creative environment.
The open days will take place across three care homes: Oakwood Court in Haywards Heath on Monday 15 June, Woodlands in Crowborough on Tuesday 16 June, and Saxonwood in Battle on Wednesday 17 June.
Palette to Pitch
At the heart of the events is the ‘Palette to Pitch’ project — an engaging football world cup themed arts workshop, where residents and young people will collaborate to design and build tabletop football games. Working in mixed teams, participants will create their own miniature stadiums and players before putting them to the test in friendly competitions.
The sessions, led by professional artists, offer more than just creativity and fun. They are designed to encourage meaningful connections between generations, allowing residents and students to share experiences, learn from one another, and build lasting relationships.
Welcoming local school children
Students from local primary and secondary schools will be attending across the three days, alongside special guests and members of the community, highlighting Sussex Housing & Care's commitment to strengthening local partnerships and tackling social isolation.
The events form part of a national initiative led by Championing Social Care, which aims to shine a light on the vital role care homes play within their communities. By opening our doors, we will give visitors a warm welcome and a firsthand insight into life within our care homes.
