Housing Assistant

Job Description

You will be an integral part of a housing team delivering a robust housing management service including Income Collection and Arrears Management; Allocations and Lettings; Tenancy Management including Anti-Social Behaviour; Leasehold Sales and Management; Resident Engagement. 

The responsibilities include:

  • Providing caring, effective and efficient generic housing management service maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Supporting the Housing Team with the day to day housing management of circa 430 tenanted and 170 Leasehold properties.
  • Supporting the Scheme Managers, Housing Team Leaders and Head of Housing with the recovery of rent and service charge arrears for tenants, former tenants and leaseholders.
  • Supporting the Housing Team with the allocation and letting of circa 60 homes per year ensuring they meet our re-let target times. To include managing an excel spreadsheet, placing adverts on Local Authority portals for vacant properties, drafting tenancy agreements and sending tenants and applicants acceptance and offers letters.
  • Supporting the Housing Team in the sale of Leasehold properties, to include maintaining an excel spreadsheet, raising purchase orders and invoices and assisting with the preparation of management packs. 

Candidate Requirements

  • At least one year’s experience in a housing management role, including experience in allocations and lettings; income management; leasehold management and dealing with anti-social behavior and nuisance cases.
  • GCSE grade 4 or above or equivalent qualification (standard pass) in Mathematics and English.
  • A good understanding and knowledge of housing practice, particularly around voids, lettings and rent accounts.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Decision making and problem solving skills
  • Good organisational skills and ability to plan own workload.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent IT skills, including MS Outlook; Word and Excel.
  • A ‘can do’ attitude, a willingness to be a team player and carry out a variety of tasks as necessitated by a small (staffing compliment wise) business and as instructed by the line manager.
  • The ability to deal efficiently and sympathetically with members of the public.
  • Full mobility access across Sussex is required. You will be required on occasions to travel to sites throughout our region.

  • Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Pay: £27458.90 Annually
  • Start date: 30 Apr 2025 11:15

Additional Information

Hours of work, Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (35 hours per week)

While flexible working from home options are available this role will also include regular travel to Support Services based in Seaford, together with travel to schemes located around Sussex when required.

Due to the nature of the role, the post holder must hold a full driving license with access to own vehicle
